My blue butterfly – Happy Birthday

Here is a poem AC gave the family for Easter when she was in kindergarten. On the card it reads, “Retold by AC”

The air is like a butterfly
with frail blue wings
the happy earth looks at the sky
and sings

Today, I sit and think of her with loving thoughts. It is her birthday today, on August 31st …my baby is no longer a baby but a blue butterfly that sings…

baby girl born
filled with innocence
air so pure

baby girl born
always a baby in eyes
of a mother

filled with innocence
shedding day by day
butterfly wings

air so pure
like the sound of her voice
when she sings

&

life’s goodies
filled with spice – and,
everything nice

to my daughter, my blue butterfly,

Happy Birthday

with love,

Mom

blossoming courtyard (troiku)

[…] “There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more.” […] Lord Byron

sun gently peers
yawning gardens stir
from a dim skyline

sun gently peers
announcing
emerging day

 yawning gardens stir
waiting with bated breath
burgeoning rosette

from a dim skyline
sunbeams kissing blossoms
wowing the courtyard

hands her a daisy,
blushing, she thanks him,
Oh those courting days!

hands her a daisy,
heart fills with hope
their first kiss…

blushing, she thanks him
roaming the field – leans closer,
her hand feels so soft

Oh those courting days!
arm slides round her tiny waist
head on his shoulder

searching your path(troibun)

When I see the word “climb”the image of Maria (Julie Andrews) comes to mind and I hear the finale of The Sound of Music,  “Climb Every Mountain”. In life, we are presented many mounds and foothills to surmount…some seeming too difficult to climb. Some do not always see the different paths to get to the top; others do not realize they don’t have to do it all alone…

********

[…] “Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley. ” […] Theodore Roethke

child looks wide-eyed
yet – time moves at a snail’s pace
eyelids beckon

child looks wide-eyed
mound of sand with tiny holes
tiny critters climb

yet-  time moves at a snail’s pace
despite grappling wit
millimetre steps

eyelids weigh
resolutely reach the top
misses finale

Review: Haiku Rhapsodies by Celestine Nudanu

A stunning review of Celestine’s book of poetry “Haiku Rhapsodies”

Reading Pleasure

Note

I do not know if it is ok for me to publish on my blog a review of my haiku collection, Haiku Rhapsodies, by a fellow blogger in Ghana, Paapa Kwesi Amerado. Mind you, Paapa and I have never met face to face though we visit each other’s blog and live just four hours apart. We do communicate also on FB. And I must add that his copy of HR is a verified purchase. 🙂 As I was saying Paapa wrote this review and sent it to my mail and after reading it, I fell in love with it. Oh yes and I said ‘ah, Cestone, why don’t you post this on your blog?’ Does it sound right? Well, I must market my book, must I not? 🙂

[…] “These flowers, which were splendid and sprightly, waking in the dawn of the morning, in the evening will be a pitiful frivolity, sleeping in the cold night’s arms.” […] Pedro Calderon de la Barca.

Summer Rain – Johnny Rivers

Pink moon (haibun)

last night the sky bled
tonight
the moon blushed

He met her at the station. She ran into his arms as soon as she spotted him in the crowd. Breathless, she leaned against his chest, feeling his heart beat. He lifted her face with his hand gently under her chin …

lips locked
under the pink moon
her cheeks flushed
