Montreal City Lights…an amazing Band!

Last week I had the opportunity to see an amazing band perform at Café Campus, Montréal, Qc..  To see these guys perform…to hear the depth of their talent was awesome!

Montreal City Lights
Montreal City Lights

Here is a little bio I got from their website that YOU should all check out http://www.montrealcitylights.com

Founded in 2010, Montreal City Lights is the result of individuals who have one thing in common: a strong passion for music. The band is composed of Alexandre Lavoie (vocals, guitar), Jean-François Nadeau (drums),  Philippe Pilon (bass), Sébastien Fournier (trumpet) and Dominique Moisan (voice). The group takes us on a musical journey with their songs that contain a wide variety of colors. This blend of talented musicians results in a Folk-Rock-Pop-Blues festive ambiance with plenty of nuances. Right from the start, the band performed on many stages including Club Soda, Le National and Le Petit Campus. Launched in February 2012, the first EP of the band is called “Sing for you” and will soon be sold on  http://montrealcitylights.bandcamp.com/.

I always feel so privileged to be in the presence of creative talent. Not only is this group a great musical band, the singer, lead guitarist is a composer too!  Yep, and he devotes probably most of his free time to his passion. I should know [rubbing my fingernails on my shoulder and blowing on them, with a bit of pride…I work with this guy!].

So when I say work, I mean Alex works full time on a counselling crisis line for youths besides his creative

job. Every day, at each break he wolfs down his meal so he can take advantage of the rest of his spare time to sing, pratise and sing some more in a back room of our counselling centre.  Our clinical manager appreciates his talent and found him a place that does not disturb us while we are working.

But I gotta say, I like to sneak over to a couch that leans against the wall of “that back room” and just relax and unwind listening to that acoustic guitar and strong rich voice…oh yeah, feels nice to unwind like that.

This band plays a mix of so many styles that are true to my heart like folk, bluesy, rock and I guess like most folks, when you aren’t sure you just catagorize that as “alternative”.  They just completed their FIRST CD and this is a BIG DEAL…really!  Each song was created with the passion, talent and tenuous work of this band and especially….Alex!  It IS clear that this is a labour of love.

The thing that struck me last week was just how much all these bands put so much of themselves AND their hard earned money from their “day jobs” to pay to be able to perform at such venues as Café Campus.  My measly $5 cover charge was nothing and since not many peeps showed up in the middle of the week…blame it on winter, University reading week…whatever…these bands still have to cough up several hundreds of dollars and I did NOT see one band member complain…they perform to the little crowd as if we were a thousand groupies and fans cheering them on. What respect they have for an audience just astounds me!!  Really!!

I cant wait to purchase a few CDs of Montreal City Lights and lucky me, I can even get them autographed!!! YAY!!

I am willing to have some friends have a listen to a song or two but NO WAY do I allow them to copy…pirate any music that I purchase.  It stands to reason, that any kind of pirating is not only illegal it is also so friggin unethical…it is pretty darn despicable, I say!  Did you know that Canadians…yep, people known for being so polite and mild mannered…” on a per-person basis, dowloaded nearly two-and-a-half times as many unauthorized songs as Americans in the first half of 2012 (23.95 million in Canada, versis 96.68 in the U.S.).”  Ouch!! Not something to say you are proud to be Canadian, eh?

Is it tempting to download music for free? I suppose it could be because you think no one sees you and you are not hurting anyone…but aren’t you?   It is not any different than photocopying a book (and alas, there are peeps who do this too, I know)…I love to write and I would sure not want peeps copying my stuff…share at will, sure!  But give credit where it is due!

As for artists like Montreal City Lights

Montreal City Lights
Montreal City Lights

and the band I was also swepted away with Bright September

Bright September check them out www.brightseptember.com
Bright September check them out www.brightseptember.com

…I can think of other bands I enjoy like Free Press in Toronto

or Take the Boys here in Montreal  and I would never think of copying or downloading their stuff…if everyone does that, how are they able to create more amazing music?

When you are paying your measely $6 or $10 or $20 for a CD…you are just paying for the plastic and the cd…you are not even beginning to cover the cost of the time and time and time they have invested in their passion.  So some of you may say, “So what! It’s not my problem…they like jamming so who cares.”

Well I CARE and you are being selfish and inconsiderate peeps.   Imagine you have saved up for a real nice PS3 or an amazing new home entertainment unit…you have worked your butt off for a year to get these and one night you come home and you ‘ve been robbed!! OMG!! You say, and you feel violated.  Well, that is exactly what  you are doing to these artists every time you are pirating.

If you really can’t afford it…check out websites that let you have a sneak listen or borrow it from your local libarary…no one is asking you to pay pay pay…hey!  I get it!! Just don’t steal cuz that is basically what you’re doing. I hope  you think twice the next time you are tempted.

Go go go Montreal City Lights…the world is your oyster and all those clichés…I feel so proud seeing you guys blossom…I am your new groupie!!

Remember that card “unsigned” that said, “I LOVE YOU”?

It was so darn simple as kids
It was so darn simple as kids

It’s that time of year again… I do remember as a kid of 8 or 9 and Valentine’s was slightly different and yet…so simple…I remember how special I used to feel on this day. I would bring my carefully chosen and signed Valentines to share with my classmates and the fuzzy feeling I felt in my tummy along with tons of butterflies when someone special gave you a nice card “unsigned” but saying how you are special to him/her…{Heart throb…thump thump…sigh!!}

Moving on to Valentine’s Day and grown-ups…that special day…you know when couples look into each other’s eyes with a twinkle…or with that GaGa look.  It is a time when lots of guys feel the pressure to get something and aren’t “all” sure just what will put that sparkle in his partner’s eyes…or have his partner’s heart melt.

529800_300627843393638_1737018957_n

It is a time that some partners just don’t bother and give the excuse that it is “a lot of crap and only to make money”.  Hmmm, okay, I get part of that comment but what about just a little special something…does not have to be an expensive gift or that box of chocolates or the flowers you always forget which one your partner prefers…What if it is not purchased and you show her/him…MORE THAN WORDS to express the love you have for this special person in your life??!!

What about just being more attentive that evening?  You know, like clearing off the dinner table; or folding the laundry (kids clothes) together!

What about having a babysitter stay

Preferably a human babysiter over 14!
Preferably a human babysiter over 14yrs!

with the kids so you can go out for a nice walk…or just go to the movies together after dinner.  Can`t afford that…that`s just fine…then have the kids play at your friend/neighbour`s for 2 hours and you and your partner have a REAL early dinner …tête à tête on the living room rug with candles of course and soft music…ya see, it does not have be much to be turned into something special!

No neighbours but lots of children…have the older children go out for at least an hour or so to a park, a mall, a recreation centre…it may not work Feb. 14th…so plan it for a few days later.

In addition to words…What if you just looked your partner in the eyes and said just how much she/he is meant to you?  Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?  An extra stroke in the small of her/his back…a light touch (minouche)  behind the neck…a little pat on the butt…just little loving nudges that say it all so well, “I love you”.32179_300751003381322_603805519_n

Remember that song  by Extreme “More than words”?  Well, that is one of my favourites and I find it so darn fitting for Valentine’s Day.  Not everyone has the gift of the gab or Blarney; not everyone is a poet and not everyone can afford a gift expensive or not.  But showing your special lady how you feel can mean a lot and the results, believe me, will linger…for a while anyways.

{I still do not know how to embed this lovely video so kindly click on this link…the images speak wonders….the lyrics!  Well, listen and you’ll understand why it’s been one of my favs for so many years}

More Than Words

Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It’s not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words

Now that I’ve tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don’t ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words

I could think of several stories to write about this image…{heart thump}
Can you "see" feel the love...?
Can you “see” feel the love…?

What are things that make YOU feel special?…that make you feel like a woman… like a desired human being in every sense of the word.  I wrote a personal blog a while back on things that make me feel good, that make me feel desired and that make me  truly “Feel like a Woman”…and literally sigh with contentment…feeling like a feather fluttering on your skin or the nice feeling when draping a silk robe on your body…nice, smooth and special, right?

In closing, allow me to share what I wrote in my personal blog…in a slightly edited version of course 😛

Special things that make me feel like a woman …Sooooooo… add to the list or pick one or two for Valentine’s Day  Loving yourself and making yourself feel good is KEY:)

53348_401761603228304_1176255263_o–         Finding that special sexy dress that makes my body look amazing and shows off the curves in just the right places…

–         those high heels or pumps that make those calves feel firm and allow me to walk with confidence when strutting down the street (or dance floor, club etc.), hips swaying, head up high, shoulders straight…feeling like taking on the world …bonus if my guy is next to me, gently placing the palm of his hand on the small of my back now and then.

–         Walking into a fancy restaurant, dance club or bar with the above outfit and attitude and feeling some eyes notice me as I proudly hold onto the the arm of “my guy”.

–         Dancing with my girl friends and just enjoying the music…not a care in the world…feeling eyes on us which does not stir my curiosity but just adds to my confidence.

–         Nice silk stockings that feel soft on my legs

–         A soft silk nighty hugging my body…

–         A nice feeling after a workout especially feeling my tummy muscles start firming…

–         Soaking in a bubble bath, the bathroom lit ONLY with candles and listening to jazz

–         Having my special person,  put sunscreen on my shoulders…my back…and yup, you guessed it the neck and small of my back feel extra special

–         Swimming in a lake on a deserted beach…nude…feeling light and free

–         Floating on a boat…catamaran …raft……hearing nothing but the ripple of the water and fish tails flapping the water now and then…feeling the soft breeze on my face, through my hair and on my body.

–         Feeling the breeze on a hot summer night on my body…lying on a sandy beach or on a boat…

–         Feeling the palm of  that special person`s hand gently support the small of my back as we walk into a room together

–         Touching the small of my back while dancing or on a slow walk outdoors…

–         Passing his fingers through my long hair…starting from the top of my head, gently going down to my neck massaging the scalp gently, gives me goose bumps just writing this

–         Those special eyes that look me over slowly with some subtlety …eyes telling me I look amazing…worth more than words!

–         Being pulled into his strong arms and kissed (“ardently” the cheeky novels say) on my lips… breathtaking…

–         Minouching /stroking my neck and gently towards the nape of my neck.

–         Watching a movie and gently feeling my guy’s hand cover mine…stroking ever so softly now and then…

–         When talking or watching t.v. or a movie, gently stroking my shoulder or my neck or my hand or my knee or thigh…ever so briefly…that’s telling me that you’re thinking of me …you’re glad to be near me…

–         When among people in a discussion or at a party and my special person looks at me casually and winks…or raises their eyebrows…means so many things 1) This is cool but I’d like to be with you right now 2) miss you 3) won’t be long so we can be together and ….cuddle…take your pick…they are all signs of wanting to be intimate (talking, touching or just holding each other and relaxing)

–         Sometimes, taking me by the elbow to make sure I don’t slip or fall…

–         Feeling his hand around my shoulders when walking, …just feeling his presence…

–         Those are just some things I like…Oh, oh, and lest not I forget…slow slow dancing to soul music…

Happy Valentine’s Day!

WoW!! How windy was it today???

7857205Walking to work today was certainly a challenge. The winds were so strong, I felt literally “blown away” on more than one occasion.   As I was pushing against the wind to get to work early this afternoon, I thought to myself, “Geez, I know I lost a few pounds but this is ridiculous!  I am not a skinny person and a far cry from slim…so how come these gusts are so darn powerful?!!”   I am not kidding, so many times as I was getting closer and closer to work near St-Viateur + Bernard, I could not help but hear this faint voice in my head, “Auntie EM!!! ”  it literally felt like, any minute, I was going to be knocked off my feet and soar through the sky…

Well, reading the Montreal Gazette tonight confirmed the winds were certainly out of the ordinary.  If the winds this morning at 11 am. Succeeded in knowking down a truck…I guess I was lucky at 2p.m. to be still standing!  A roof blew off in Pincourt; tempos (tent style car shelters) were blown away like “kites” .

Over 100,000 residents without power and traffic was even banned in a quadrant downtown (that happens to be my travel route to and from work).  And Highway 25, between Joliette and Mascouche was closed at 2:15 (minutes after I arrived unharmed at work) due to too many cars taking the ditch! Reports, Anne Southerland, of The Montreal Gazette  http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/montreal/Strong+winds+wreak+havoc/7900574/story.html

Walking home tonight at 11:30 p.m. was even more challenging as the temperatures had dipped another 12 degrees, so it was windy and brrrrrrrrrrrrr very very cold.  For me to have to keep my scarf over my face…it WAS cold!

I certainly cannot complain because I did not get hurt, I did not take my car and have to worry about icy roads and I was not deprived of electricity.  Here I am snug as a bug in a rug (well my comfy housecoat) blogging.

I’m taking a 3 day weekend starting tonight and hopefully the wind calms down a little so I can travel to visit friends in the Eastern Townships…

me jan 2013 B & WHave a great weekend everyone…drive safely and check out my previous post on what to do with young children if you are stuck inside all weekend.
